First Aid Needs & Legal Duties
Does every workplace need a trained first-aider?
No. If your needs assessment shows low risk, an appointed person and a stocked first-aid kit may be all that's required. Higher-risk or larger workplaces are more likely to need trained first-aiders.
What's the difference between FAW and EFAW?
First Aid at Work is the longer, more in-depth course generally suited to higher-risk workplaces. Emergency First Aid at Work is the shorter course generally suited to lower-risk workplaces. Your needs assessment determines which applies.
Do I have to write down my needs assessment?
Not legally, but HSE recommends it as evidence of how you reached your decision on first-aid provision.
Does HSE approve or certify training providers?
No — HSE stopped approving first-aid training providers and qualifications in October 2013. It's down to the employer to check a provider is competent before booking.
Booking and Delivery
How do I book on-site training for my team?
Fill in our quote request form with your location, team size and the course you need. We usually respond within one working day to arrange dates and confirm details.
Do you come to our workplace, or do we need to travel?
All our training is delivered on-site at your premises. We don't run open courses for individuals, so you won't be booking into a public class alongside people from other companies.
Which areas do you currently cover?
We deliver on-site training across the South West and South of England, including Bristol, Bath, Somerset, Bournemouth, Cornwall, Exeter, Plymouth, Portsmouth, Southampton and Swindon. If you're outside these areas, get in touch — we may still be able to help.
Is there a minimum or maximum group size for a session?
There's no minimum — even a small team can book a session. Each session covers up to 12 people, so if you have a larger team we simply schedule an additional session.
How far in advance should we book?
There's no fixed lead time — we can often fit in short-notice bookings. As a general guide, we suggest getting in touch around 3 weeks ahead where possible, as this gives the best chance of securing the dates you want.
Do you offer a blended learning option?
Yes. Our blended courses combine self-study theory, completed online through our training portal, with in-person practical training and assessment at your workplace. Emergency First Aid at Work blended is 3 hours of self-study plus 3 hours in person. First Aid at Work blended is 6 hours of self-study plus 12 hours in person.
When will we get certificates, and how long are they valid?
We aim to issue certificates within 5 working days of your course — let us know if you need them sooner. Certificates are valid for 3 years.
